UK empire: UK colonized 1/4 of earth land-mass. how come UK not china/india/ africa. what happened?

The british used a lot of the areas natural resources which are needed for advancement. Plus, like in the uae, the british take away some of the areas most important things. Like in the uae, the brirish destroyed some of their docks which were big parts of their income.
